Gear and Tips

General

There's more to fishing than just the boat! Here you will find all the tips you need to score that trophy bass you’ve always wanted to catch. Sometimes catching the biggest fish doesn’t mean using the biggest lure available! Tuna Boats will examine multiple aspects to catching that next big fish.

Lures

When it comes to picking the right lure it’s all about the fish you’re trying to target. For example, if you’re aiming for a musky you will need to rig up some heavy-duty gear compared to targeting a bass or walleye. Lures come in all different sizes, styles, colors, and textures. Each lure has its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to selecting the right lure for you. If you’re aiming for walleye, make sure to have some basic jigs available. When it comes to massive bass you will probably want something like a Texas-rig, lots of plastics are good for catching large bass.

Rods

Picking the right rod for the job can be very challenging, there are a lot of factors to be paying attention to, so you don’t miss that big catch. Typically, you'll want to find a rod that is made for the type of fishing you’re doing. So, a musky rod should be used for musky fishing and a light compact walleye rod should be used for walleye fishing. While the rod isn’t really going to be finding you the fish it will most certainly play a role in catching it. You don’t want to be catching a heavy fish on a light rod. Speak with your local shops when selecting the rod for your personal interests.
